Boxes of Basics, was founded in August 2018 by Sarah Tyndall – It is a local nonprofit dedicated to providing high-quality clothes to clothing insecure children living in Prince William County + the cities of Manassas + Manassas Park. Each Box of Basics contains an entire seasonal wardrobe curated for an individual child.
Sarah’s inspiration came when she assisted a mother of four in need of clothing for her children. This small act of kindness evolved into Boxes of Basics, a community-driven 501(c)3 that supports families facing challenges like homelessness, domestic violence, medical issues, job loss, children in foster care, refugee family displacement, and more.
Since its inception, Boxes of Basics has engaged over 400 volunteers + provided wardrobes to more than 4,500 local children in over 70 Prince William County schools + organizations from Haymarket, Gainesville, and Bristow, to Manassas, Woodbridge, Lakeridge + everywhere in between.
Deb Jewell, Director of Community Partnerships, shares more below about herself + B.O.B!
• Tell us a little about yourself + Boxes of Basics!
With over 40 years of experience in Prince William County, Debbie brings a wealth of knowledge + connections to our mission of empowering children by providing seasonal wardrobes packed with dignity and love. She is dedicating her time to connecting individuals + businesses with opportunities to support B.O.B.
In her own words, “I’ve had a lifelong career connecting devices, but I have made a life connecting people. I am thrilled to bring my passion for the community to the role of Director of Community Partnerships at Boxes of Basics!”
• What is a memorable moment you can share about B.O.B.?
In August 2023, the Boxes of Basics headquarters relocated from a space in Old Town Manassas to a large, rented warehouse located at 9239 Mike Garcia Drive in Manassas. The move was necessary to help us meet the growing demand for our services.
